The USA567 Women's National Team kept the goals flowing against Switzerland, improving to 2-0 in the 2021 WMF Women's World Cup with a 9-2 win.
Alivia Milesky had three goals, giving her a team-high seven in the tournament so far. Natalia Torres Diaz had two goals and two assists and Kennedy Kessler added two goals and one assist. Gabby Byorth and Christy Zwolski accounted for the other two US goals.
Milesky got the US on the board in the 3rd minute and Diaz scored about a minute later. Milesky, Diaz, and Kessler scored in succession to give the US a 5-0 lead 15 minutes into the game. Valerie Lelle assisted on the fourth and fifth goals and had a goal-line block, contributing to a standout first half.
Moldova, who lost to the US 18-0 yesterday, beat Ukraine 4-3 today, while Serbia, who beat India 18-1 yesterday, lost to Egypt, 1-0. The US would suffer no such reversal of fortune, continuing to build their lead in the second half.
Milesky, Gabby Byorth, and Diaz stretched the lead to 8-0, but Scilla Grossi scored her first of two consecutive goals to end the US shutout streak at 89 minutes. Kennedy Kessler scored for the US in the 48th minute to end the game on a high note.
"This group is just a team, they don't depend on any one person," said US coach Craig Rhodis, "As we go further into this tournament we're going to face better competition so this was a good game to try to figure out how we react as teams are better prepared to play against us and our style."
The US will end group play tomorrow with a game against Ukraine at 3:00pm local time. Then Sunday's semifinal is set for 8:15am, followed by either a 3rd place game at 2:15pm or a preferred slot in the 6:15pm Championship.
