10/28/23 - The USA567 National Team raced to an 8-1 win over Sudan to move into second place in Group D with first place Romania lying in wait on Monday.

Romania beat Sudan 10-1 in their opener, so the US was trying to top their nine goal scoring differential. Head-to-head with Romania (2-0) likely won't matter now after they beat Spain 3-2 today. But second place could come down to Spain's (0-1-1) margin of victory against Sudan if the US can't beat Romania on Monday.

Ian Bennett put the US on the board at 5:30 and Franck Tayou scored the eventual game-winning goal just nine minutes into the game on a penalty kick. Bennett completed a hat trick to open the second half scoring to put the US up 6-0, shortly after the team killed a five minute power play that resulted from a Justin Stinson red card.

Stinson's red card will be appealed and the replay seemed to show that he got the ball first in a 50-50 tackle and his heel was on the ground when he made contact with the Sudan player. If Stinson's red card is upheld he will have to miss Monday's game.

Aside from Bennett's three goals, Tayou had a pair, and Sebastian Mendez, David Ortiz, and Zach Reget added goals.

Boris Pardo played approximately 30 minutes in net and didn't allow any goals while Robert Damron making his WMF World Cup debut, allowed just one goal in 20 minutes.
